BC Hydro’s Net Metering Program was recently rebranded and is now known as the Self-Generation Program. This program allows homeowners to earn credits for any excess solar energy they send back to the grid.

Here’s how it works:

• ✅ You get a 1-to-1 credit for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity your solar system exports — up to 100% of your annual usage.

• ⚠️ If your system produces more than you use in a year, the excess electricity is sold back at market rates — typically 2 to 6 cents per kWh.

• 💡 For comparison, BC Hydro’s residential rate is usually 11 to 14 cents per kWh.

  
  

This is why right-sizing your system is so important: going beyond your annual usage doesn’t benefit you financially — you end up giving away power for pennies!

It only takes a couple of minutes — and it gives us everything we need to create your custom solar design.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Log in to your BC Hydro account:👉 https://www.bchydro.com/accounts-billing.html

2. Click "View detailed consumption"

3. Click "Export data"

4. Set the date range to one full year. Choose the interval as monthly. Download the file as a CSV
